You can find a lot of informations about Middle Betting Strategy nowadays over the internet, free informations, but 15 years ago very few informations existed. Now we have tons of softwares and odd scanners available, and because of this, many bettors are using middles betting strategy. Middle Betting Strategy is often referred as Middling Strategy.
In fact, back in the time, when we used to search for arbitrage opportunities manually, we discovered that sometimes we can find opportunities when you can win both sides of the bet (under and over , for example) , when doing it right. Later on, we discovered that already this was a betting strategy, and it has a name : Betting on Middles.
What is a Middle Bet?
Personally, I used this strategy in LIVE betting, I found that implementing this strategy in LIVE betting is the most rewarding , but also , is more risky.
Also, because Middles Betting Strategy is a derivate from Arbitrage Betting Strategy, I strongly suggest you read about Arbitrage first, for a better understanding of this concept of sure bets.
Another way to explain middling strategy is to bet on both outcomes of a line (Over or Under) in such manner for hitting the middle spot when Over and Under intersects : 
When this happen, the bettor cannot lose , and if he hits the MIDDLE, he will win double (both the Under, and the Over betting lines) !
Let’s have some examples, for better understanding of middle betting strategy.
1. Example 1 – Basketball Over / Unders
In this screenshot , let’s say you bet at Betcity – Over 163.5 points , and at Olimp, Total Under 165.5 points.. This is also a small arbitrage bet, but let’s explain it like a middle arbitrage. You will have 3 possible outcomes :
– game finishes with 163 points : you will win the arbitrage bet at Olimp , the won sum will be at odd 2.09 . Your profit will be +0.88% from total stake
– game finishes with 166 points – you just won at Betcity bookie, the win sum will be at odd 1.95. Your profit will be +0.88% from total stake.
– but, IF game will finish with EXACTLY 164 or 165 scored points.. you will WIN BOTH bets, at BOTH bookmakers, and your total profit will be +100% !
2. Example 2 – The Hockey Example
In this screenshot , let’s say you bet at Superbet – Over 1.5 goals for team 1 , and at 1Win, Total Under 2.5 goals. You will have 3 possible outcomes :
– Team 1 score 0 goals or 1 goal – you will win the arbitrage bet at 1win, the won sum will be at odd 2.3 . Your profit will be +0.98% from total stake
– Team 1 score 3 goals or more – you will win the arbitrage bet at Superbet, the won sum will be at odd 1.8 . Your profit will be +0.98% from total stake.
– but, IF Home team score EXACTLY 2 goals in the game.. you will WIN BOTH bets, at BOTH bookmakers, and your total profit will be +100% !
And I can carry on with the examples from almost all sports . I gave you examples from Hockey and Basketball. But you will find such middle betting strategy opportunities also in :
– football , especially on corners, and in live betting (our favourite)
– basketball (totals and handicap) – in live betting you will find a lot of opportunities. Our favourite – betting on middles on live basketball games.
– Handball, on over and handicaps (also a lot of opportunities on live games)
– American football, baseball, on different markets, like points spread
– Even in e-sports you can find plenty of middles bets
How Do Middle Bets Opportunities Appear ?
There are several reasons that provoke appearance of Value Bets.
1. Bookmakers are not Gods, like we said in other articles.
Yes, they invest MILLIONS of dollars into research, statistics, dedicated teams that analyse those statistics and news. But they are NOT perfect. They need to keep track with thousands of fixtures every day from tons of sports. Every fixture have a lot of betting markets, sometimes hundreds. So , they working volume is way too big , so sometimes they have delay in updating the lines, in updating the odds. So, arbitrage opportunities appear, this means also the change of finding middles bets will rise !
2. Fast moving markets, like in LIVE BETTING.
This is our favourite, like I mention before. Finding Middles Bets in live games. But, if pre-match arbitrage bets are there for quite some time .. in LIVE betting, arbitrage and middle betting opportunities come and go in a matter of minutes, even seconds. Maybe 80% of the middle bets that we found are in BASKETBALL , because some bookmakers are having delays in updating their odds . Sometimes they cannot keep up with the speed of scored points, therefore, a lot of middles bets can appear. You need to be fast in taking them, and always you need to bet OVER first.
Middle Betting Strategy – Better in Pre-Match or LIVE ?
Well.. this is for everyone to decide for themselves , but each have their advantages.
Pre-match Middles:
Almost impossible manually, because they are so many fixtures, so you need a scanner (Free or Premium) to find arbitrage opportunities and middling opportunities. It is easy for beginners, because opportunities stay longer (from several minutes , to maybe 1 hour), until bookmakers are changing the odds. But , the bad side is that also soft bookmakers may limit your account if you do this strategy a lot of times. It’s very well known that placing arbitrage bets and middles in pre-match , will flag your betting account faster than if you place them on LIVE betting. And this is because a lot of people are doing it (because its VERY EASY). So is for bookmakers to notice wh is betting on those opportunities !
LIVE Games Middle Betting Strategy:
This strategy, on the other hand, it is more suitable for bettors that understands the principle of arbitrage betting, are more experienced, and they can place bets pretty fast. You need to be quick when placing in-play middle bets, usually those opportunities don’t stay long (maximum 1-2minutes), and maybe longer if you find those opportunities in timeouts or breaks between quarters of halves.
On the other hand, in LIVE betting you will find more opportunities, and bigger. Over the time, we, for example, noticed that during basketball games most opportunities appear. We love to apply this strategy on basketball live games, and sometimes more than once per game. More about this tactics , will talk in membership area of the article, where I present even more “tricks” for members. In same article only for members I will explain a short variance of this strategy applied on football live games, on corner betting.
Middle bet types
In terms of how profitable middles can be, middles are divided into 2 categories, positive and negative.
Positive middles:
Those are the best, because it’s purely an arbitrage betting. Example of positive middles you can see in those 2 example in the start on the article, where whatever is outcome , you will win double, or very small amount of profit. It is almost impossible to find them manually, a scanner will do the job properly
Negative middles :
Those situations appear when the bettor never hits the middle (for winning both bets) , and loses a small part of his bets, like 1-2%. Those situations are quite common, pre-match or live, but we personally don’t care about those, and I will tell you why. The middles are hit more times than you can believe.
Wait ! You want to suggest that placing bets in arbitrage , when I lose 1-2% it is a good idea ? YES. Let’s say you find this situation in above screenshot, between 2 huge soft bookmakers (Bet365 and Stoiximan – Betano)
Bet 1 : Over 0.5 Team2 in 2nd half at odd 2.2
Bet 2 : Under 1.5 team2 in 2nd Half at odd 1.8
So.. you will win DOUBLE (both bets) if Team 2 Duren score EXACTLY 1 goal in second half. . But if any other outcome will occur (no goal or 2-3-4-5 goals) you will lose 1% of total stake (bet1 + bet2 that you placed) . Mathematically, if you hit the middle ONE TIME in 100 middle bets placed.. you will be even money. What do you think ? What is the chance for Team2 to score EXACTLY 1 goal in 2nd half ? 1% ? Hell no ! Thats why.. that one exact bet is one of my prefered middle bets, even if it have an apparently 1% loss.
The reality is that that middles are hit once in every 9-10 situations, from our years of experience. This means, I would not recommend to place middles if the arbitrage is worse than 5% loss.
How To Find Middles Bets in Sport Betting?
As I mention in the beginning, in the past we did Arbitrage Betting and Middle Betting by manually checking every game and odds, we used different bookmakers that we know that they are in competition with each other and have their own teams that are calculating and deciding the odds. But overtime, programmers have invented different softwares, scanners that do the job for you. So, the main ways to find middles are :
1. Manually searching for Middles Bets.
This is not for everybody, and the reasons are simple : It’s is very hard and time consuming. And it’s no point, when you have websites that scan for you and show you where to go and where to place a bet, effortless, with minimal costs. Also, you manually need to calculate the potential profit or loss, and amount to stake. Fast odds changing will make also harder to bet on time.
2. Using Free Middle Betting Softwares
3. Using Premium Betting Softwares.
Therefore, I strongly suggest using the Premium Versions of those softwares. Ofcourse, they may not be cheap, but hey.. you cannot win money, without spending some. And don’t even imagine that someone will give you a service access to a software for 10 usd per month, when you can make thousands per month with that software. We can recommend some of them, because in the past years we did try a lot of them for the arbitrage or finding middle bets (some of those websites can also offer you access to arbitrage odds scanners , and value bets, and middle bet finders, all in one)
Just Look at this !
Exactly when I was writing this article, one of our prefered scanners show us this bet, you tooked in only 20 seconds . So , if the tonight NBA game, Los Angeles Clippers with Millwaukee Bucks will end with EXACTLY 115 or 116 points, In the First Half .. we will WIN BOTH BETS, and bring us 246 usd pure profit. Any other score will bring us 0.40 cents.. so .. consider it like a FREE BET :
Pros and Cons of Middle Betting Strategy
Let’s start with the Pros:
1) Sometimes can be more profitable than Arbitrage betting. Sometimes. Because in classic arbitrage betting, usually we don’t place arb bets with lower arb percentage than 3-4% . So in Arbitrage bets we mark a small profit with EVERY arb that we place. When placing bets in Middle Strategy, we place small arbs, with lower profit, and even arbs with small negative profit.
2) In Middle Betting, same as in Arbitrage betting , we place a stake on each outcome, so more money involved in bets , if you compare with Value Betting Strategy.
3) The winnings depends of the unit size and total bets placed in a period of time.
4) Smaller chances for being limited by soft bookmakers, than classic arbitrage betting. Also, usually the middles opportunities appear between a soft bookmaker and a sharp book, or a betting exchange. So, you need to worry about only 1 bookmaker, the soft one.
5) In our experience, over time, the total profits in LIVE middles betting strategy are better than Value Betting profits.
Now, let’s see the Cons :
1) In arbitrage betting, opportunities can appear for all betting markets , while in Middling Strategy, you cannot have opportunities in money line for example. The main betting markets for middle betting are : Total, Over / Unders, point spread, handicap lines, and asian handicap markets. You need to get familiar with those markets.
2) Requires a lot of discipline and constancy. You cannot place today middle bets with 100 euros , and tomorrow with 10 euros. Because if you hit the middle when placing 10 euro per bet, and you win 20 euros, won’t cover the moments when you didn’t hit the middle and you lost those small amounts. So your stakes needs to be constant.
3) Emotion Control – After a losing streak, everytime comes a winning streak. Don’t force your luck, don’t increase stake size if you are losing , and trying to recover loses. STICK TO THE STAKING PLAN ! – VERY IMPORTANT !
4) Sometimes you get limited by soft bookmakers (gubbed accounts) , where you cannot place your desired stake. They limit account for arbitrage / value / middle bettors, so be prepared to open another account with another bookie . Anyways, in Value / Arbitrage betting you need to have in the same time, accounts with a lot of bookmakers, not only 1-2-3. The good part is that middle bettors are harder to find by those bookmakers.
5) It is time consuming. Especially when you place middle bets on LIVE games. But the rewards are direct proportional with the allocated time for this.
