Australian Open 2025 winners : Jannik Sinner gets second straight tournament winner and Madison Keys wins women trophy
Sinner holds an 80-6 record since the start of 2024, which also includes the US Open trophy. Meanwhile, Zverev might be the most talented player to still not win a Grand Slam. This was his third major final, but the German star’s forehand struggles proved costly against Sinner.
On the women’s side, there is an American champion once again. After having to face the two best players in the world — Iga Switek and Aryna Sabalenka — Madison Keys has claimed her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Keys outlasted Sabalenka in the final on Saturday over three sets to accomplish the feat.
Zverev advanced to the final after 10-time Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic retired because of an injury. Meanwhile, Sinner earned his ticket by beating American Ben Shelton in straight sets. Shelton’s exit meant American men are still facing a major drought, with Andy Roddick’s 2003 US Open being their most recent Grand Slam trophy.
